Get ready for the Big Garden Birdwatch

Sunday 18 January, RSPB Loch of Strathbeg 10am - 3pm

It's the Big Garden Birdwatch next weekend, so come along to the reserve to get some practice recognising the different species on the feeders and find out how to attract birds to your garden and take part in the country's biggest survey of its kind.

To help you look after the birds in your garden, children can make a free birdcake when they visit today - messy, but fun!

Big Garden Birdwatch Open Day, Sunday 25 January

RSPB Loch of Strathbeg, 11am - 3pm

We'll be celebrating the birds in our gardens with a variety of games and activities all themed around this weekend's Big Garden Birdwatch. There'll be the chance to make bird cakes or bird feeders (bring a fruit juice carton along of the 'Tropicana' type if you have one), feed the giant blue tit, get your bird food, try our Bird food hide challenge and much more.

Tree Sparrow Party, Saturday 14 February

RSPB Loch of Strathbeg, 11am - 2pm

We're very proud of our Tree Sparrow population here at the Loch of Strathbeg, so we're hosting a party for them!  You can come along and help to make them a present - they've asked for nestboxes!  You'll be able to find out a lot about the life of a Tree Sparrow and there'll be a few activities relating to this colourful little bird.

FORVIE LOST VILLAGE AND YTHAN ESTUARY Sunday February 15th

Adults and older children (12+), Booking essential, moderate walk (4 miles) over rough tracks, dunes and beach.

12:00 to 15:00

Meet at Waterside car park and enjoy a 4 mile walk over the coastal heath to the lost settlement of Forvie, where we will discover how the sands buried this lost village hundreds of years ago.  From there we will walk down the beach and over the dunes to return along the Ythan estuary where we will discover the birds that use this place as an important winter feeding ground.

Bring a packed lunch, waterproofs and stout footware.

MUD GLORIOUS MUD Sunday  March  15th

Family event, Children Welcome,  Booking essential,  easy access.

Come to the Waulkmill bird hide at 11am or 1pm and find out why the Ythan estuary is so important for wildlife.  We will be looking at the life to be found in the mud and identifying some of the birds that use the estuary as an important feeding ground.  Please phone to book a place on either the 11am or 1 pm session.

Spring into Spring Open Day, Sunday 29 March

RSPB Loch of Strathbeg reserve, 10am - 3pm

The clocks have gone forward and we are officially in British Summer Time, so lets celebrate! 

Find out about the things you can do this year to help wildlife in your area.  There will be information from a variety of RSPB projects and other organisations about ways you can help and great places to see wildlife, as well as a full list of forthcoming events at the reserve.  We'll also have a variety of activities for children to do on the day.
